General information

Short Summary
Portuguese partners are developing a project consortium to mobilize the technological
capacity in the areas of development and production for green energy. This project aims to develop an innovative approach for optimized turbines to recover kinetic and potential energy from the water systems, taking advantage of customized systems, using automatic design and additive manufacturing.
Full Description
This project aims to pioneer an innovative approach to harness kinetic and potential energy from
water systems. We will leverage customized systems, incorporating automatic design processes and additive manufacturing techniques to optimize turbines for this purpose. The primary goal is to
convert this harvested energy into electricity, which can then be used to power small and remote
villages, as well as critical infrastructure like telecom networks and remote sensing systems.
To achieve this objective, we will leverage the emerging scientific and technological capabilities in the fields of research, development, and production of sustainable energy solutions. Our approach fosters a multidisciplinary framework to drive capacity enhancement, innovation, international outreach, and the valorization of the "Water-Energy" nexus through the use of custom-designed Additive Manufacturing Turbines (AMT).
Our current consortium consists of two forward-thinking SMEs, each with specialized knowledge in
water distribution systems, computational design, and customized production through additive
manufacturing. To complete our team, we are actively seeking an innovative company specializing in power electronics development and integration. This partner's role will be crucial in providing
solutions for generators, alternators, and motors to efficiently convert kinetic energy into electrical
power.
Advantages and Innovations
The main advantages and innovation on this project are:
- Creation of an easy-to-assemble and custom made energy production solution for urban water systems
- Study and development of a small, integrated and cost-effective solution – “turnkey”, a compact product sold in a box
- Research, design and production of innovate customized micro-hydropower systems for green energy
- Product replicability, transferability and versatility (custom built turbines)
- Product and production sustainability – innovation, economy’s decarbonization, clean energy production
